Powder coating is tough, but like any finish it lasts longest with a little care. Coating deterioration is mainly caused by UV light, grime, salt and contaminated moisture. Grime acts like a sponge, holding moisture against the surface where corrosion can start, and damage at that point can’t be repaired without removing the coating.
How often should I clean it?
Clean your fence at least every quarter. In harsh conditions, such as coastal salt, industrial pollution or heavy grime, clean it monthly.
How to clean it
- Carefully remove any loose deposits with a wet sponge.
- Use a soft, non-abrasive brush or microfibre cloth with a mild pH-neutral detergent to remove dust, salt and other deposits.
- Rinse with clean fresh water and wipe dry with a clean, dry cloth.
What to avoid
- Don’t let garden chemicals, pesticides, fertilisers, mulch, compost or hedges contact the fence.
- Keep panels clear of soil. A gap between fence and ground is beneficial.
- Never use harsh detergents, steel wool, scrapers, scouring liquids or powders. They permanently scratch the coating.
